The Roomba e5 Robot Vacuum.

Roomba e5 Review – Efficient and Budget-Friendly

The iRobot Roomba E5 is one of the newer and the more advanced vacuum robots in the market. It is a powerful vacuum robot with smart features. Its price tag kind of sits in the middle, it is not too expensive but it is not that cheap as well.

Just like any other Roomba units, the Roomba E5 has a 3-stage cleaning system that uses a vacuum suction and two different brushes. It also has a High-Efficiency Filter and has a dust bin capacity of 0.5 litres. This vacuum robot also uses state-of-the-art technologies like the iAdapt Navigation technology and the Dirt Detection technology. Aside from that, it is also WiFi-enabled and supports smart home integration.

Design and Dimensions

The Roomba E5 has a sturdy looking build. And just like any other vacuum robot, it is a round device with all its control buttons located in the center of the device. It has three control buttons: CLEAN/power button, Spot, and Dock. Unlike the older models, the Spot and Dock buttons are located on both sides of the CLEAN button and both the Spot and Dock buttons are now replaced with icons–making the device look more minimalistic. Its logo is located a little below the CLEAN button.

Aside from the control buttons, the Roomba E5 also has a handle and a bumper ring. It also comes in one color only, black. The Roomba E5 weighs 7.2 lbs and has a height of 3.6 inches.

Performance and Technology

When it comes to cleaning performance, there’s no doubt that the Roomba E5 is one of the best. It has a 3-stage cleaning system that uses Power-Lifting Suction, Dual Multi-Surface Brushes, and Edge-Sweeping Brush. Its Power-Lifting Suction has 5x more air power for improved pick-up performance than the previous generation. Meanwhile, the Dual Multi-Surface Brushes that grab dust, dirt, and large debris, work alongside the Edge-Sweeping Brush that sweeps the debris away from edges and corners.

Previous generations used an AeroVac filter but the Roomba E5 uses a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Type Filter that captures 99% of allergens and small dust particles, as small as 10 microns. In addition to the filter, its dust bin capacity is 0.5 litres and it’s washable.

The Roomba E5 certainly has an impressive cleaning performance and to make it more efficient, it has been equipped with state-of-the-art technologies like the patented iRobot Roomba’s Dirt Detection Technology that allows the device to detect dirty areas and clean that area completely. You also do not have to worry about the device falling down the stairs because it also has iAdapt Navigation Technology that uses bump and cliff sensors to prevent the device from bumping into a wall or falling down the stairs. It also has Anti-Tangle Technology that recognizes electrical cords, strings, and tassels which means the vacuum won’t suck them.

The Roomba E5 also has Virtual Wall Barrier, a technology that creates an invisible barrier and the device won’t cross that barrier, making it easier for you to control the device on certain areas around the house.

Power

The Roomba E5 uses a lithium ion battery with 1,800 mAh. It has a 90-minute running time and it automatically docks and recharges itself. The charging time takes 2 to 3 hours. While it automatically recharges, it does not automatically resume cleaning so you have to activate the device again to clean the house.

Navigation and Connectivity

The Roomba E5 has a random navigation therefore it randomly pinballs around the room as it cleans. It does not follow a certain route. It does not have Imprint Smart Mapping Technology, a technology that allows the device to remember the layout of your home, unlike the more expensive Roomba units. It does not have a camera that would map out your home as well.

When it comes to connectivity, the Roomba E5 does not have a remote control so you can only control the device through the control buttons and the through the iRobot Home App. Since the Roomba E5 is WiFi-enabled, you can link it to the iRobot Home App, which allows you to schedule and monitor cleaning sessions. The Roomba E5 also recognizes voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
