The Roomba 890 Robot Vacuum.

Roomba 890 Review – A Budget-Friendly Robot Vacuum

iRobot Roomba vacuum robots are among the best vacuum robots in the market. When you look for the best vacuum robots on the internet, the Roomba vacuum robot is always included on the list. The iRobot Roomba 890 is a mid-range vacuum robot from the Roomba 800 Series. It is ideal for people who are looking for their first vacuum robot.

The Roomba 890 is an advanced vacuum robot that’s also budget-friendly. It does not have complicated technology as well, perfect for beginners. It has smart features like the 3-stage cleaning system, the duo brush design, and the Dirt Detection Technology. It also comes with bump and cliff sensors and supports wireless connectivity.

Design and Dimensions

The design of the Roomba 890 is very similar to other Roomba units. It is a round device with its control buttons on the center – a big CLEAN/ power button in the middle with Spot and Dock icons at the top and bottom of the CLEAN button. The Roomba 890 looks like a big cd player with its logo located at the top of the device, just a little above the Spot icon. It does not come with an LED/LCD display as well.

The Roomba 890 has a nice, sturdy build. It is 3.6 inches tall and weighs 8.4 lbs. It also has a color combination of black and copper/brown. Aside from the control buttons the Roomba 890 also has a handle and a bumper ring.

Performance and Technology

The Roomba 890 is a smart vacuum robot unlike the vacuum robots from the Roomba 600 Series. However, even if it is more advanced, it still has the same premium 3-stage cleaning system and uses vacuum suction along with a duo brush design. Dual Multi-Surface Brushes that grab dust, dirt, and large debris, and Edge-Sweeping Brush that sweeps the debris away from edges and corners. It uses a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Type Filter to really ensure that 99% of allergens and small dust particles, as small as 10 microns, are captured. After the vacuum robot sucks all the dirt and dust it goes to the dust bin. The Roomba 890 uses AeroForce bin, a high-capacity sealed bin that can hold up to 60% more dirt than its predecessors.

The cleaning ability of the Roomba 890 is very impressive, to think that it is not the most advanced and expensive Roomba to ever exist, says a lot about how iRobot Roombas are top-notch and made of high-quality materials. This vacuum robot is great for homes with pets. Aside from its great cleaning abilities, the Roomba 890 is also equipped with high-end technologies like the patented Dirt Detection Technology which allows the device to detect dirty areas and clean that area completely along with the iAdapt Technology that uses bump and cliff sensors to prevent the device from bumping into a wall or falling down the stairs. The sensors also recognize cords and tassels so you don’t have to worry about it being sucked by the vacuum.

A technology called Virtual Wall Barrier which creates an invisible barrier that the Roomba 890 won’t cross, is also included in the box. This technology makes it easy for you to control the device to a certain area in your house.

Power

The Roomba 890 can run up to 90 minutes and it automatically docks and recharges after a cleaning cycle or if the battery is running low. It takes 2 to 3 hours before it gets fully charged. The Roomba 890 uses a lithium ion battery with 1,800 mAh. It’s battery is also replaceable so you don’t have to worry if the battery worms out.

Navigation and Connectivity

This robot vacuum is smart enough to connect to WiFi which means more hands-free control and you will be able to link the device to the iRobot Home App, an app that you can download on your smartphone or tablet which allows you to schedule and monitor cleaning sessions. It also recognizes voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The WiFi connectivity is a good feature, especially the Roomba 890 does not have a remote control.

When it comes to navigation, the Roomba 890 still uses a random navigation which means it pinballs randomly as it cleans around the room. It does not have Imprint Smart Mapping Technology, a technology that allows the device to remember the layout of your home, or a camera that would map your home.

 Verdict

The Roomba 890 is an impressive vacuum robot. Its price is a little expensive but you’ll be getting your money’s worth since it has a lot of great features and it uses advanced technologies. Its design is not unique since almost all vacuum robots are round and it looks very similar to other Roomba units, however, it has a unique color. Previous Roomba units have black and silver colors but this one has a dark copper shade. Gone are the Spot and Dock labels as well. It has been replaced with icons which makes the device more minimalistic. It looks very sturdy as well. It has a handle and a bumper ring, however, it does not have a display.

Its cleaning ability is great as well. It has the 3-stage cleaning system that uses Dual Multi-Surface Brushes, Edge-Sweeping Brush, and a vacuum suction. Plus it uses a HEPA filter which makes a lot of difference. The HEPA filter captures 99% of allergens that regular filters can’t. It also uses the AeroForce Bin.

The Roomba 890 uses unique technologies as well like the Dirt Detection Technology and the iAdapt Technology. Its battery life is very good as well. Enough to clean an entire room. And it is WiFi-enabled. It does not have a remote control but the WiFi feature allows you to connect your Roomba unit to the iRobot Home App where you can monitor and schedule cleaning sessions. It also recognizes voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

If you are someone who’s on a tight budget, you may want to look at other Roomba units or check our other brands since the Roomba 890 has a higher price tag. But, overall, I would highly recommend this device since it is equipped with the best cleaning technology.
