Design and Dimensions

The Roomba 614 is the entry-level robot vacuum of iRobot. It is 3.6 inches tall and weighs 11.5 lbs. It also has a circular design, almost like a big cd player. Its design is almost the same with other latest and more advanced Roombas. It has the power button that says Clean in the middle and once you press it, the Roomba 614 will automatically do the cleaning. The Roomba 614 does not have a lot of control buttons but the good thing about it is that it gets the job done easily–it gets to work with just one press of the Clean button without the complicated programming or setting up of the device. It also has a Dock and Spot buttons on top of the Clean button. Also, the Roomba 614 only comes in the shade black and does not have any other color selection. It does not have any LCD or LED display as well.

Performance and Technology

There is a reason why the iRobot Roomba vacuum robots are one of the best in the market. The Roomba 614 is the most basic Roomba model but it is better than other robot vacuum brands. It has a 3-stage cleaning system: loosens, lifts, and suctions dust, hair, and dirt from your floor, may it be hardwood, tile, linoleum, or carpet. It effectively cleans more than other brands because the Roomba 614 has a patented duo brush design, Edge-Sweeping brush and vacuum suction,  that is only unique to iRobot’s Roomba vacuum robots.

Aside from its duo brush and three-stage cleaning system, the Roomba 614 uses the Dirt Detection technology that allows the device to detect the areas that are dirty and will thoroughly clean that area by going back and forth until it’s free from any dirt. The Roomba 614 also uses an AeroVac filter that captures fine dust and debris. Although it is not equipped with a HEPA filter, the AeroVac filter of the Roomba 614 does a decent job.

The Roomba 614 also uses the iAdapt technology that allows the device to move around the room and detect walls. It also cleans everywhere, even under your furniture, and can clean different kinds of flooring. It cleans literally everywhere but because of the iAdapt technology, you don’t have to worry about the device falling down the stairs because it has been equipped with bump and cliff sensors.

Power

Meanwhile, when it comes to power, the Roomba 614 is known to have a good power. It uses lithium-ion batteries and runs for up to 90 minutes. Its charging dock can be plugged on the wall and the device will automatically docks and recharges. The battery of the Roomba 614 is better than the batteries used in the later Roomba units that use nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Navigation and Connectivity

Unlike the more advanced Roomba models, the Roomba 614 does not have smart navigation nor Keep Out Zones feature–where you can draw boxes on the iRobot Home App on your phone to keep your Roomba unit out of certain places, and uses random navigation instead. However, despite not having smart navigation, the Roomba 614 is equipped with intelligent sensors and makes more than 60 decisions per second to adapt to your home and thoroughly clean your floors.

The Roomba 614 is also not compatible with the iRobot Home App because it is not WiFi enabled which means you can’t do scheduled cleaning through the app or you can’t modify or adjust the settings of the device. Since it is not WiFi-enabled, it also does not support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

If you have the budget, I suggest you take a look at the Roomba 675. The Roomba 675 is more advanced than the Roomba 614 but it is also more expensive. It has the same power as the Roomba 614 and uses the same technologies and random navigation. However, the main difference between these two robot vacuums is the wireless connectivity. The Roomba 675 is WiFi-enabled therefore you can schedule and monitor cleaning sessions using the iRobot Home App through your smartphone or tablet while the Roomba 614 does not have that feature and can only be controlled through its control buttons.

  • GOOVI Robot Vacuum

This vacuum robot almost has the same design and is more affordable than the Roomba 614. In addition to that, GOOVI Robot Vacuum also features wireless connectivity while the Roomba 614 does not support WiFi. The WiFi feature of the GOOVI Robot Vacuum allows you to connect the device to the GOOVIHome App that enables you to control the device. It also comes in two colors: black and white while the Roomba 614 only comes in black.

  • Amarey A800 Robot Vacuum

The Amarey A800 is also a good substitute for the Roomba 614, although it does not have WiFi like the Roomba 614, it comes with a remote control so you can easily use the device without physically reaching for it. It’s running time is also a little longer compared to the Roomba 614, at 100 minutes while the latter can only run for 90 minutes. This robot vacuum is also more affordable than the Roomba 614 and is slimmer.

Verdict

The Roomba 614 is a great robot vacuum to have. It has impressive features, considering that it is the most basic model of the Roombas. It is more advanced than you imagined it to be. It has a 3-stage cleaning system and uses Edge-Sweeping brush and vacuum suction. You also don’t have to worry about it falling down the stairs because it has iAdapt technology and other sensors that would keep it from falling off the stairs. The Roomba 614 also has an impressive battery life it can clean for 90 minutes after it recharges from its dock and it also has the ability to automatically recharge itself when its battery is already low.

The only thing that this model does not have is the wireless connection. The Roomba 614 does not support WiFi and therefore can’t be linked to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You can’t also use the iRobot Home App which means you can’t control the device through your smartphone or tablet. Also, it does not have a remote control so you have to bend down and physically press the control buttons on the device itself. But for what it’s worth, the Roomba 614 is a great cleaning companion. It is inexpensive and it does the job.
